FUE Hair Transplant

FUE stands for “Follicular Unit Extraction”. FUE hair transplant is one of the first methods that come to mind when it comes to hair transplantation. The feature of the FUE method is that there is no incision in the scalp; this provides an advantage both during the operation and in the healing process. In addition, the fact that there will be no scar or incision marks after the operation increases the preference for patients.

What are the stages of the FUE hair transplant?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. After donor area is prepared for hair transplantation, the hair transplant team collects appropriate hair follicles one by one. By means of FUE motor, the hair transplant team collects hair follicles by opening incisions smaller than 1 mm (0.6 mm-0.8 mm) on the scalp. These follicles (grafts ) contain 2-3 hairs each. In this step, it is very important not to damage the follicles. During hair transplantation, the team will remove thousands of follicles from the donor area and the smallness of the end will affect the healing process of the region.

After all the hair follicles are collected, after separation, transplantation is carried out. The transplantation process requires very careful opening of channels. Opening the channel is a process that requires at least as much precision and experience as follicle collection.

Factors affecting success in FUE hair transplant

The lateral slit method, which has recently started to be preferred instead of the punch system, allows the opening of channels suitable for the size and length of the patient’s hair follicle by making the incisions suitable for the structure of the hair. The channels that are opened at the right size and depth affect the rate of hair growth that is transplanted in hair transplantation.

The other important issue is the angle of the channel where the hair follicle will be transplanted. The angles, which are the biggest factor in ensuring the natural hairstyle, should be applied differently in each region of the head. Otherwise the hair will not take the desired shape. Another factor to ensure natural appearance is to determine the hair line correctly. The forehead area and the area where the hair starts should be calculated with the correct proportions.

What should be considered after FUE hair transplant operation?

After the operation, we control on the first day. After 48 hours, we carry out washing operations. Washing continues for 10 days as in the other hair transplant methods. The hair from the hair follicles transplanted grows in 2-3 weeks, but then the hair loss appears. But, this situation is temporary. After a few weeks of rest, the hair begins to grow again and after the 6th month, it returns to normal. In some areas, hair may take longer to develop into this condition.

As with the Robotic Hair Surgery and DHI method, the experience of the specialists who perform the procedure in FUE is very important. In Esteworld, Dr. Servet Terziler and his team apply the FUE method successfully.
